Nicholas Prior
Nicholas Prior is a photographer from New York who makes art from the people around him. He has three major projects; Age of Man, Based on a True Story, and Home(less). He is very inspired by the people around him and uses them as his subjects. Nicholas said he was influenced by Freud's writing on the Uncanny and the idea that an adult can not look back on childhood as a child which creates a mysterious chasm between adults and children. You can sense a lot of that theme throughout his pictures and they have very powerful message.
In the photo above Nicholas photographed a homeless person in Seattle and collaborated with them to create an accurate representation of themselves and the subject of homelessness. I think he did a very good job with that by using warm colors to illiminate the room. The overall feel of the picture is very calm and peaceful which most people wouldn't assume by just looking at a homeless person. He also makes the overall picture appealing by using a repetition of shapes.
When scrolling through his photos this one stood out to me the most. It's a very intimate picture even from far away. The subject is looking at the camera straight on and has a very composed look. It is also interesting in black and white because the man is dark but the water around him is light which leads your eyes there first.
